Having clocked-up a full week behind the wheel of the Mobil 1 vehicle, running on Mobil 1’s New Life oil and kitted out with innovative driver perception technology, TV presenter and motoring enthusiast James Martin is ready to steer us through the findings…

The science behind the survey

The data captured by James and the team included vibration and noise readings of the roads, levels of the stress hormone Cortisol in James’ body and his heart rate. From this, Mobil 1 developed an equation to measure the roads which had been voted onto a shortlist by UK drivers, by taking the physical readings of the road, dividing it by the physiological recordings and then multiplying the result by a ‘driveability’ rating.
